Support for Kaiyo Notes
Browse the questions below. If you can't find what you need, email us directly. We actually read every message.
The Editor
Does the app save my notes automatically?
Yes. Kaiyo Notes saves every few seconds, automatically. There is no save button. Your thoughts are captured the moment you type them.
How do I create a checklist?
Open any note and tap the checklist toggle in the toolbar. This turns your note into a task list. Tap any item to mark it complete. Ticked items get a strikethrough.
What rich text options are available?
The toolbar above your keyboard gives you Bold, Italic, and Bulleted List formatting. These apply to any selected text in your note.
Where do I see the word count?
Live word and character counts are displayed at the bottom of the editor while you write. They update in real time.
Organisation
How do folders work?
Folders are the top level of organisation. Create a folder (called a Notebook) and move notes into it for a clean structural overview. Free accounts can have up to 3 folders; Premium accounts have unlimited folders.
What's the difference between folders and tags?
Folders are structural: a note belongs to one folder. Tags are flexible: a note can have multiple tags, and you can filter your whole library by tapping any tag on the home screen.
How does the search work?
Smart Search scans the title and body text of every note as you type. Results appear instantly.
How do I sort my notes?
Tap the sort option on your dashboard to choose between date created, alphabetical order, or note colour. Pinned notes always stay at the top regardless of sort order.
Safety & Security
How do I lock a note?
Long-press a note and select "Lock". You'll be prompted to set a PIN. Note locking is a Premium feature.
What happens if I delete a note by mistake?
Notes are never immediately deleted. A left-swipe moves a note to your Archive. From there, deleting moves it to Recently Deleted, where it stays for 30 days before being permanently removed. You have a full month to recover anything.
Does Kaiyo Notes back up to the cloud?
All your data lives on your device. No accounts, no cloud sync, no servers. Your notes are fully private, but that also means you should back up your device regularly using Android's built-in backup.
What happens to my notes if my subscription lapses?
All your existing notes and folders remain fully accessible. You can read and edit everything you've already written. Creating new notes or folders beyond the free-tier limits (100 notes, 3 folders) is paused until you resubscribe. Premium settings like custom backgrounds and Glassify revert to defaults. Notes you had locked can still be opened, but you cannot lock new notes until you resubscribe.
Personalisation & Premium
What's the difference between the free and premium tiers?
The free tier is genuinely useful. Full access to the editor, smart search, tags, dark mode, archive, and note colours, capped at 100 notes and 3 folders. Premium removes those limits and adds export to .txt, PIN note locking, custom backgrounds, and the Glassify effect.
What is the Glassify effect?
Glassify gives note cards a semi-transparent, frosted-glass appearance over your custom background. Purely cosmetic. Toggle it on or off in Settings.
How do I set a custom background?
Go to Settings, tap "Background", and choose any image from your device gallery. Custom backgrounds are a Premium feature.
How do I export a note?
Long-press a note and select "Export". This saves the note as a plain .txt file directly to your device storage. You can also tap "Share" to send the note as plain text to any app (WhatsApp, Email, etc.). Export to .txt is a Premium feature; sharing as plain text is available to all users.
